How this list works
Distance. Miles are measured in a straight line from your location or ZIP code, not by road. Driving distance and time will be longer.
Where the locations come from. Each home's latitude and longitude come from CMS's Provider Information file, the same data behind Medicare's Care Compare.
ZIP codes. This site places a ZIP code at the average location of the nursing homes CMS lists in it. If CMS lists no home in that ZIP code, the site uses the average for ZIP codes that start with the same three digits, so distances are rougher. Using your location is more exact.
Your location stays with you. Your browser asks before sharing your location. Your exact position is not sent to this site; the page downloads the list of homes for your general area and does the math in your browser.
Filters. "Takes Medicaid" means CMS lists the home as certified for Medicaid; ask the home whether a Medicaid bed is open. A Special Focus Facility is a home that CMS has placed under closer oversight because of its inspection record.
The order is by distance only. It is not a ranking or a recommendation.
